IoT (Internet of things):
The “IoT” (Internet of Things) is a concept of computing or calculating, describes the idea of everyday physical objects being connected to the internet. It can be a person with a heart monitor implant. Besides workplace, it is also increasingly growing topic outside the workplace. It has an ability to transfer data over a network without a human to a computer or human to human interaction. It is a system correlative mechanical devices, computing devices, digital machines, objects people or even animals.
The Internet of Things is a difficult concept to express specifically. In fact, different groups have defined this term “IoT”. The important factor behind the development of the Internet of Things is a huge increase in address space of IPv6. An expert on digital innovation Kevin Ashton attributed its initial use, he is also a co-founder and executive director of the Auto-ID Center at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Each and every explanation shares the concept that the first version of the internet was about data created by people, although the next version is about data created by things. Kevin Ashton described the potential of Internet of Things:
“Today computers -- and, therefore, the internet -- are almost wholly dependent on human beings for information. Nearly all of the roughly 50 petabytes (a petabyte is 1,024 terabytes) of data available on the internet were first captured and created by human beings by typing, pressing a record button, taking a digital picture or scanning a barcode.
The problem is, people have limited time, attention and accuracy -- all of which means they are not very good at capturing data about things in the real world. If we had computers that knew everything there was to know about things -- using data they gathered without any help from us -- we would be able to track and count everything and greatly reduce waste, loss, and cost. We would know when things needed replacing, repairing or recalling and whether they were fresh or past their best.”
Let us first understand a few things:
More widely available internet connection is now Broadband Internet, but the cost of connecting is decreasing. Nowadays more devices are developed with Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) efficiency and sensors built into them. Cost of technology is going down highly. All of these devices or things building a “perfect storm” for the IoT.
What is the Internet of Things:
This includes cell phones, coffee makers, headphones, lamps, wearable devices. Perhaps it includes everything you can think of. It is a basic concept of connecting any device to the Internet. It is a giant network of connected “things”. The term “things” also includes people and there is a chance of over 26 billion connected devices by 2020.
“Anything can be connected” the new rule of IoT and the future is going to be. There are so many examples for this, one of those examples is, if your alarm clock rings and wakes you up at 5 A.M. and then notifies your tea maker to make a cup of tea for you.
